When the idea of working on a cruise ship first popped into my head years ago, I was indifferent about many things that are important to me today.
Back then I was young, free and single and I wanted to see the world, enjoy new life experiences and meet lots of people from different backgrounds and nationalities. But most importantly, I was eager to do something more exciting with my life.
At the time, this was my biggest motivator.
Still, I vividly recall leaving my family behind for the first time and wondering how the next 6 months away from my family would impact me as a person, and I quietly asked myself, am I doing the right thing? I had heard all the stories about the long hours involved with working on a cruise ship and about how some of the passengers can be rude and very demanding.
But of course this didn’t bother me. I was on my way to a new adventure, I was going to make decent money, meet good people from all over the globe, get to visit some amazing places – and as a young, single guy I couldn’t help but think about the girls I would hopefully meet :-0)
As events would unfold it soon became clear that I had definitely made the right decision. Sure, I worked hard, but the positive rewards I reaped from my experiences, far outweighed any negatives that came with the job.
I say these things to illustrate the point that it’s important for YOU to give plenty of thought as to why you want to work on a cruise ship. You need to have a compelling reason which will intensify your desire to do whatever it takes to land that dream cruise job.
I can tell you that the biggest reason why most people don’t land their dream job is simply because they don’t get started or they give up at the first sign of rejection. Keeping your most compelling reason for wanting to work on a cruise ship at the forefront of your mind will keep you excited and motivated to get a job that can be a positive, rewarding and life-changing experience.
