Copy this winning cruise jobs getting strategy!

Having a good strategy for applying for cruise jobs is often a key factor in the successes we see.

The people who get hired quickly are the people who:

1) Have a CLEAR idea of the positions they’re suitable for
2) TARGET their applications to these specific positions
3) FOLLOW UP on every job and with every company they apply to
4) Keep TRACK of everything they do

And they do this consistently and persistently until they land the job they’ve been desperately seeking.  And in many cases, they do.

On the other hand, the people who FAIL to get hired are those who apply haphazardly.

In other words, they apply to a few positions here and there… when they feel like it :)

Or, in a flurry of enthusiasm they fire-off a load of CV’s / resumes to a few cruise lines for random cruise jobs… and then expect the world to beat a path to their door!

When they hear nothing back after a few weeks… they give up.  Perhaps in a few months time they’ll have another go…

However, if you just take a few minutes out to follow a proper plan and then stick to that plan and keep a log of everything you do… then you’ll get some great results.

Here’s a few things you should be keeping track of:

* The job you applied for
* The cruise line/agency/concessionaire you applied to
* The address/email/website you applied to
* The date you applied
* The response (if any) you received
* The date you followed up (you did follow up, right?)
* Notes about each application you make

This might seem like a lot of extra work, but it’s not once you’ve set it up… and it’s certainly worth doing if you’re SERIOUS about getting a job that pays you to travel the world and enjoy some tremendous life experiences!

A quick tip to force your cruise job applications to the top of the stack!

Here’s a great ‘Follow Up’ tip a former recruiting colleague of mine shared on our forums recently, that you can use today:

When you apply for cruise jobs with several different companies, create a simple spreadsheet listing the cruise lines you applied to in a column going down the page. Then, make three additional columns labeled “Recommendations,” “Call,” “TY Card”.

Here’s what these mean:

Recommendation: Two days after you send in your application, send three letters of recommendation in to the HR department.

If you don’t have any letters like this, then simply ask people for them!

Even better, write the letters yourself and get some prestigious people and/or ex-employers to sign and print them on their letterhead. When you send these letters in, your application will be pushed to the front of the stack since the cruise line must go through and dig out your original application to match these letters along with your resume.

Call: Call or email the cruise line a week later asking if they have everything they need to make a hiring decision. This is not the time to beg for a job. You’re simply calling to ask if they have everything they need from you in order to offer you a job. Take the name of the person you speak with.

TY Card: Immediately after getting off the phone, send a Thank You card addressed to the person you just spoke with.

From the perspective of someone who has hired many people to work on cruise ships, it’s little tips like these that can make all the difference and make you stand head and shoulders above your competition and ultimately land your “dream job”.

5 Essential Qualities Every Cruise Job Seeker Needs…

If you’re applying for jobs on cruise ships then it’s important to demonstrate in your applications that you possess particular qualities that make you suitable for living and working on a cruise ship.

These are the essential qualities that most cruise ship recruiters will be looking out for in every application, cover letter and CV or resume they come across, regardless of the job you’re applying for. Here they are: -

1. Customer service ability
2. Team work ability
3. High work quality
4. Strong work ethic
5. Good communication skills

If any one of these qualities are "missing" from your application, then you might well be considered "not suitable" for living and working on a cruise ship.

Have a quick look over your cover letter and CV/resume right now and see if you’ve got the above 5 points covered. If not, then spend a few minutes to try and work them all in. It could make a big difference and really help you to stand head and shoulders above the crowd when applying for jobs on cruise ships.
