As you can imagine, every day we get hundreds of emails from people enquiring about cruise ship employment.
In this weeks tip, I thought I'd share with you a few of the most common questions we are asked, which I hope will help you:
1) How long will it take me to get a cruise job?
You can get hired within days, weeks or months from the time you send out your first application. However, as with any job, the time it will take you will depend on the position you're applying for and the current demand for that position.
It will also

The biggest mistake most cruise job seekers make is NOT following up on their job applications.
Or, put another way, you need to FOLLOW UP EVERYTHING!
We often get emails from people asking, "how do I follow up correctly?" so here's some extra info to help you follow-up on your cruise ship job applications.
Sending a simple follow up letter or email 10 - 14 days after your first application can be an effective way of getting your name to the top of the huge pile of resumes that are sitting on the desk of most

THE biggest mistake most job seekers make when actively seeking employment on cruise ships is...
<Drum roll please...>
"NOT FOLLOWING UP!"
Or, another way of putting it...
"FOLLOW UP EVERYTHING!"
Look, it's simple math. When you follow up on every application you send and every contact you come across - you are mathematically MAXIMIZING your chances of getting called for the job interview and ultimately landing your "dream job" of getting paid to travel the world.
Send a follow up cover letter and CV/resume every time. Use 'snail mail,' email, pick up

Why?
Because the busy "Summer Season" is just around the corner.
In just a month or two most ships will be running at full capacity and all will need to be fully staffed across all departments on board to cope with the demand.

If you've been trying to get a job on a cruise ship for any length of time then here's a short, inspiring message which also contains a valuable lesson.
It was posted to our discussion forum by Karen from the UK who fly's out to Gibraltar next week to join her ship the Aurora (right). She will spend this summer getting paid to cruise around the Mediterranean and America!
Here's what she had to say:
"It has been a while as to be honest I ALMOST gave up. I have been bashing away since early December,

You might not realize this, but around 97% of cruise ship vacancies are NEVER advertised.
This means a large majority of positions are filled BEFORE they ever get to the advertising stage - by people who simply sent off their CV/resumes and put themselves in front of the cruise line for the position they really wanted.
If you're serious about working on cruise ships, then don't wait for the jobs you want to be advertised...
Just apply for them anyway!
I know from all the emails we get that too many applicants are sitting around waiting

A question we often get asked often is:
"Which is the best cruise line company to work for?"
If you're going to commit 6+ months of your valuable life to working on cruise ships, then this is a great question!
The problem is, there are simply too many factors involved to say whether one cruise line is "better" than another... which makes it a pretty much impossible question to answer.
What's more, you can speak to 5 crew members who have each worked for the same 5 cruise lines... and every person will give you

I heard a great tip this week and I want to share it with you because it's very important if you're serious about working on cruise ships.
When applying for jobs, a lot of applicants love to tell cruise lines just how much they want to travel the world and meet new people.
Well, guess what? Cruise lines are NOT here to make a crewmembers dreams come true!
The cruise industry is all about the passenger and making sure they have a great value, fun-filled vacation. The brutal truth is that a cruise line does not really

A cover letter is an important tool you should always use to "dress up" your resume, grab a cruise ship recruiters attention and urge them to contact you for an interview rightaway.
Yet, despite its importance many people seeking jobs on cruise ships still do not bother to include a cover letter or "covering email" of any kind when applying for jobs onboard.
Over the years I've personally received thousands of emails with nothing more than a message saying "please see attached".
Did I ever open the attachment? Never!
Not including a cover letter with an
